7 restaurants in London chefs say you need to visit

From the likes of the classic Italian, and British pub grub, a Chinese buffet to the steaks of Argentina and the flavorful curries of India.

But with so many to choose from, how are you going to be able to visit all of them?

Well lucky for you, you don’t have to as some expert chefs have given their say and shared their ‘must visit’ restaurants in London.

In a list created by The Guardian, they asked chefs where they go to grab a meal that’s good value for money, and the answers sound delicious.

Kaieteur Kitchen 

Kaieteur Kitchen in Elephant and Castle is a personal favourite of the chef and co-owner of Koya restaurants Suko Oda.

Suko shared that Kaieteur Kitchen serves “Guyanese food in big fragrant, flavoursome portions” adding that she often gets spinach rice, coconut lamb, fish curry, and plantain.

On the review site Tripadvisor, one fan of the restaurant shared: “It’s a small place but the food excellent and more importantly authentic Guyanese taste. Highly recommend a visit here.”

Royal China

Set on Baker Street, Royal China is a “consistently very good” according to Chet Sharma, the chef-patron of BiBi.

Chet said that he tends to “get a few plates of dim sum and a pot of tea and be in and out in an hour”, making it the perfect place for a quick meal.

Sud Italia

If you’re looking for a classic real Italian pizza, Sud Italia in Spitalfields Market is a must according to Angela Hartnett, the Chef-owner of Murano and Café Murano, London, and co-host of the Dish from Waitrose podcast.

Angela shares that Sud Italia dough is “delicious with crispy edges and it uses good quality cured meats and cheeses.”

On Tripadvisor, Sud Italia has a rating of 4.5/5 with one reviewer sharing: “Amazing pizza! Really reasonably priced and super filling. The dough is fantastic, and it was relatively quick to serve too!”

Yasar’s Kitchen

Executive chef at Akoko, Ayo Adeyemi says that Yasar’s Kitchen is the number one spot for “beautiful kofta with salad and flatbread”.

Offering Turkish cuisine, Yasar’s Kitchen has an impressive 4.5/5 rating on Tripadvisor with one user sharing that it was the best meal they’ve ever had: “Quality of the wrap itself was amazing! The meat was up there with the best I’ve had, fresh juicy and flavourful.”

Kennedy’s of Goswell Road

Chef Angela Hartnett also suggests Kennedy’s of Goswell Road, a classic spot for fish and chips.

The chef shares: “The batter’s light the fish is good quality, and I like the fact it’s old-school – it is not trying to be anything it’s not.”

50 Kalò

For another pizza place, chef Ayo Adeyemi shares that 50 Kalò is a must-go-to restaurant set on Northumberland Avenue.

With a 4/5 rating on Tripadvisor, 50 Kalò is praised by many with one visitor sharing: “Great pizzas, fantastic Tiramisu. Loved the ‘Pistamisu’. The staff have been lovely, and the service was fast. Recommend booking a table well ahead, else be prepared to wait. In any case, the food is worth it.”

Ganapati

If you want to try some South Indian food, Ganapati in Peckham is the go-to for chef Shuko Oda, sharing that they offer a great deal: “£13.25 for a fish thali with dal, rice, salad and poppadom. It’s really satisfying to eat and it’s such a charming restaurant.”

On TripAdvisor, one visitor said it was “fantastic”, sharing: “The curries are fantastic, their roti bread which goes with them is so flaky and soft it absolutely makes the meal. Great atmosphere – clearly a popular place with a well-deserved great reputation amongst the in-the-know locals!”
