London Underground: TfL’s Oyster Card job paying you £75K a year

You’ll already have heard of many of the jobs going on London’s vast transport network.

Train and bus drivers, ticket office workers, and even the little voices telling you to ‘Mind The Gap’.

But for a system like Transport for London, there are a million jobs which go into keeping London moving which you might not even have considered before.

And one new job being advertised isn’t just unusual, it pays some serious cash too.

This new role has you joining the very team that developed London’s Oyster Card system from scratch.

The job is for a Java Developer who can put together Java software which will aid the efficiency of London’s transport system.

And the pay might just entice you further, coming in at £55,000-£75,000 per year, with benefits.

You will be a key part in helping keep London moving, and work with National Rail, TfL and other big names in the transport world.

The job advert describes the working conditions as ‘relaxed’ and ‘collaborative’, working in a small team.

Currently, the Java Developer team are working on dealing with the problem of electronic season tickets.

The job requirements are as follows (but warning, if you’re not a Java Developer, this might sound like a foreign language).

  • Building highly distributed multi-tier Java web services and interface designs that aid in the interaction with external ticketing systems.

  • Solving complex algorithmic problems in Java 8, Spring, Hibernate. Cloud deployment on AWSand GCP.

  • Agile methodologies and clean code development using TDD/BDD and continuous integration.

  • Design and usage of high-performance databases within SQL.
