‘So Millwall’ – Neil Harris reaction to downing Leicester after losses to two Championship strugglers

Neil Harris felt it was typical that Millwall responded to back-to-back losses to relegation-threatened opponents by taking down Leicester City at The Den tonight.

Since Harris returned in late February the Lions have won at Southampton and now also defeated the table-topping Foxes.

It took a sublime strike from Hull City loanee Longman in the 59th minute to see off Leicester – his third goal since making the temporary switch to SE16 in the summer.

Since the Lions’ all-time goalscorer Harris came back to SE16 the South Londoners have taken 10 points from a possible 12 at The Den. It’s back to being a fortress.

The victory moved Millwall up to 17th and four points clear of the bottom three.

“Firstly so Millwall like, wasn’t it? To lose at Rotherham, to lose at Huddersfield in the last minute, in both games, then come back and beat the league leaders,” said Harris. “It is what this football club does.

“I’m delighted because it has been a tough week for all of us. It’s been a tough week for the football club and the fanbase. I could sense a little bit of nervous anticipation and fear probably coming back into the football club.

“I said to the group yesterday that I’ve not got time for that or come here for that. I’ve come back to try and galvanise and support at The Den when everybody was telling me they can’t play at The Den. Go on – go show me. And they have answered that criticism again.

“We scored a goal that was worthy of winning any game of football at this level. The shape and discipline of the team was as good as any team I’ve put on the pitch here at The Den – I’m talking about Brighton, Everton and Leicester, FA Cup games against Premier League teams.

“It was an excellent Millwall performance.

“Leicester might say they deserved a point from creating the chances they did – three chances in 88, 90 and 94, whatever it was – but we could’ve won 7-1 at Rotherham. We could say Michael Obafemi had a one-on-one second half and we had chances in the first half to score.

“To play against arguably the best team in the league and limit them to very little in the first 85 minutes was very impressive by the group.”
