London’s best personal trainers

What do you mean the three Peloton classes you did this month haven’t resulted in rock-hard abs? Consider investing in a personal trainer instead. For many people, one-on-one guidance is the best way to reach fitness goals. These are some of the best — and most in-demand — personal trainers in the business, offering bespoke plans, swanky studios and impressive results.

Dalton Wong

From £350 per hour; twentytwotraining.com

From his HQ in South Kensington, Wong is as famed for his performance-based programmes and detailed approach to diagnostics as he is for his results, calling on Harley Street doctors for blood tests and filling his building with holistic and medical specialists, from hypnotherapists to acupuncturists. As for the results, just look at some of his celebrity clients, who include Jennifer Lawrence and Elizabeth Debicki.

Artur Zolkiewicz

From £130 per hour; arturzolkiewicz.com

Previously based at the Bulgari hotel’s private gym, Workshop, Zolkiewicz went solo a few years ago and now works almost exclusively with 5 Hertford St members as their just-about-on-site trainer (his townhouse studio is around the corner). Given his background in martial arts and an in-depth knowledge of wellness (any spare minute is spent attending conferences), don’t expect to be throwing yourself around doing burpees or sprinting on a treadmill. Low-impact weight training and varied circuits are his route to honed and toned success.

Tyrone Brennand at Be the Fittest

£150 per session (as part of package); bethefittest.co.uk

%2Fmethode%2Ftimes%2Fprod%2Fweb%2Fbin%2Fe96e67ae 4abf 4bc8 9a4b 21889406ef86

Since Brennand set up his business with the help of the Prince’s Trust in 2014, the gym has gained a reputation as one of the best and most results-driven personal training spaces in London. Also a trained yoga instructor, Brennand always has balance in mind with his programmes, incorporating practices such as breathwork and meditation alongside more gruelling, sweat-inducing workouts. His online Training Hub was a lifeline to many during Covid and continues to be one of the most thorough and varied of its kind, with more than 350 classes available to get stuck into.

Louisa Drake

From £200 per hour; louisadrake.com

%2Fmethode%2Ftimes%2Fprod%2Fweb%2Fbin%2F4619a138 79d7 4b06 9a2e 967e23de5f10

With a background in dance and years of experience teaching both yoga and pilates, Drake’s methods are low-impact but movement-focused, disciplined but dynamic. Although her training will undoubtedly result in muscle growth, what she specialises in is that longer, leaner look and perked-up posture often associated with pilates or dance.

Luke Worthington

£140 per hour; lukeworthington.com

%2Fmethode%2Ftimes%2Fprod%2Fweb%2Fbin%2F07fdd816 c408 4608 b025 beb60063da90

With a client roster packed with actors and professional athletes, Worthington uses his 25 years of experience and scientific approach to biomechanics (human movement) to create thorough and bespoke programmes aimed at long-lasting results. With more qualifications than your average PT (in neuroscience, nutrition and sports massage, for example) his plans go beyond the gym, aiming for an overall improved quality of health, both inside and out.

Sarah Lindsay

12-week transformation plan, POA; roar-fitness.com

%2Fmethode%2Ftimes%2Fprod%2Fweb%2Fbin%2F2459c538 21df 4c3b a045 7d9bb0bf7479

The former Olympic speed skater Sarah Lindsay co-founded her first personal-training space, Roar Fitness, in 2016, and now has four locations (three in London, one in Dubai). These are centred on her 12-week transformation plans, individually tailored to each client. Each one includes nutrition guidance with specific menus taking preferences and goals into account. We’re not always pro before and after pics, but hers are hard to ignore.
