UK weather: The latest Sky News forecast | Weather News

After a period of very unsettled weather, there could well be a respite for many places on Friday and Saturday.

Fortunately, Storm Jocelyn wasn’t as intense as Isha, but it still packed quite a punch as it crossed Britain and Ireland.

The maximum gust reported was 97mph, which was recorded in Capel Curig in North Wales.

Now Storm Jocelyn has cleared away, the weather is calming down and all the Met Office weather warnings have expired.

Storm Jocelyn: Latest updates

For the rest of the day, the winds will continue to ease and the showers in the North should become less heavy and less frequent.

Elsewhere there will be mostly clear skies, except in the South West, where the next system is already waiting in the wings.

By evening time, that system will be bringing light rain and drizzle to parts of Devon and Cornwall.

Wednesday 2100

Overnight, under clear skies, most places will see the temperatures drop away fairly quickly.

This will give some patchy frost, and it may become icy in a few spots.

Then the cloud and rain will push northwards across much of Britain and Ireland, reaching as far north as southwest Scotland by dawn.

It will bring milder air with it, so many places will see the temperatures rise during the night.

Ahead of the rain, the North East will have a bright, but chilly start to the day on Thursday.

Thursday 0600

First thing on Thursday, many places will wake to a grey start with some patchy rain.

The North East may be bright initially, but the sunshine won’t last long, as the cloud and rain will quickly spread in.

The wettest of the weather will be in the west, whereas in the east, there may be a little sunshine breaking through at times.

Thursday 1200

In the afternoon, Ireland and Northern Ireland are looking brighter, but everywhere will feel the winds picking up.

Thursday 1800

Friday promises to be a brighter day.

Most places should see some sunshine.

Friday 1200

However, in the North it will be windy with some showers at times.

These are likely to be heavy and wintry at times, bringing snow to the higher ground.
