Police are appealing for information after jewellery and watches worth £40,000 were stolen from a flat in Bromley.
The burglary took place in Shortlands on Thursday, although, perhaps limiting the potential response to their plea for help, the Met said it was not disclosing the location where the break-in occurred.
The victims had been out of their flat during the day. When they returned at around 5.30pm, they discovered several valuable items, including watches and necklaces, had been taken from their home, as well as £800 in cash.
Officers are keen to speak to two men who were seen leaving the building by the main exit at around the time the residents returned on the day.
The first man was white and slim. He was about 5ft 10ins and wearing a dark beanie hat, a white face mask and a short, dark bomber jacket.
The second was also white and stocky with dark hair and an unkempt beard. He was about 5ft 6ins and wore a gold earring, a hat, a short jacket and a white cloth face mask. One of the men was carrying a bag.
Items taken during the burglary included several vintage and gold watches, some yellow gold stirrup cufflinks in a chain design, a white gold and diamond necklace and matching earrings, some diamond and pearl earrings, a vintage solid yellow gold Dunhill Rolagas lighter and a Samsonite dark grey/black suitcase.
Detective Constable Aaron Cody, who polices in Bromley, is leading the investigation. He said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who can help in any way.
“Maybe you were in the area at the time and saw something suspicious. Or maybe you have heard about individuals who are trying to sell items matching the descriptions of what was taken.
“When someone’s home is burgled, it feels like a very personal invasion and it can cause great distress.
“Londoners should feel safe when they are in their homes and so we are working hard to crack down on crimes like these.
“As well as the emotional impact of this crime, the victims have also lost several items worth a considerable sum.
“If you have any information at all, we urge you on contact police on 101 quoting CAD 5636/21DEC23. Alternatively, to remain anonymous, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
