DEFEAT IN NORTH LONDON FOR NEEDHAM MARKET WOMEN

Needham Markey exited the League cup at the third-round stage after being beaten by Watford Development 2-0 at the Hive in North London.

The home side started the better and went ahead early on from Etta Sam and they continued to have more the best of the chances as they doubled the lead just before the break thanks to Rebecca Lovelace.

It was very much a midfield battle in the second half with chances at a premium as both struggled to make an impression on each other’s goal.

Evie McKane had to make a couple of early saves within the first 10 minutes, but she was finally beaten by Sam as Watford broke the offside trap.

It wasn’t a bombardment but when chances did come it was more likely to be the pace of the Watford forward line that would cause problems.

Needham did get themselves into the game with some possession but there was little end product or attempts at goal.

It looked like they could get into the break just the one down, but luck was not with them as a lucky ricochet from a 50/50 tackle broke kindly for Lovelace and she calmly tucked it beyond McKane.

The second half was more competitive, and Needham found themselves in better positions higher up the pitch but attempts at goal were still very hard to find apart from some speculative efforts from range.

A tough day in North London and out of the League cup on one of those days for Needham.
