The witching hour is almost upon us with spooky walks, creatively carved pumpkins, and lashings of fake blood.
Families can bust out their best costumes for the Spooky Walks at Lauderdale House. Devised and directed by resident theatre guru, Tim McArthur, the 45 minute trail takes in a host of creepy characters on an adventure around the Highgate house and neighbouring Waterlow Park on the scariest night of the year. At Hackney’s atmospheric The Round Chapel, Gothic Opera stages sinister double bill Le Loup-Garou (The Werewolf) and Le Dernier Sorcier. (The Last Sorceror) Running from October 27 to November 1, the French operas with English surtitles, share supernatural fairytale themes and a mysterious world of magical creatures, and will bring the neglected work of 19th Century female composers Louise Bertin and Pauline Viardot into the light. The London Gay Men’s Chorus bring their spooktacular Halloween Ball to Alexandra Palace on October 28 and 29. Europe’s largest LGBT+ choir has just celebrated its 30th birthday and the gigs will see their 200 plus members perform an array of singalong pop favourites from the Halloween canon. Songs by Lady Gaga, Meatloaf and Michael Jackson feature alongside musical numbers from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Addams Family and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Expect a few ethereal numbers from icons Annie Lennox and Kate Bush, too. Artistic Director Simon Sharp said: “We have a whole variety of tricks and treats up our sleeves for this devilish delight.
