Drivers fined and given bans after breaking reduced speed limits

SEVERAL drivers have been fined and disqualified from driving for going too fast in areas with temporary reduced speed limits in Wiltshire.

The county’s courts have seen motorists given financial and driving licence penalties after they pleaded guilty through single justice procedure in recent months.

Sean McSharry of Fitzgerold Avenue in Highworth went over 40mph in a Mercedes Benz on the A361 in Inglesham on May 15 2021.

For this, the 32-year-old was fined £660, given six points on his licence and ordered to pay £110 in court costs plus £66 to victim services.

James Truscott, of Grange Drive in Swindon, went faster than 30mph in a BMW on the A417 Stretton Grandison in Herefordshire on May 21 2021.

For this, the 65-year-old was fined £353, given three points on his licence and ordered to pay £110 in court costs plus £35 to victim services.

He could have been banned from driving as the penalty points on his licence totted up to the maximum amount, but he was not disqualified because of mitigating circumstances – namely, the loss of employment in the medical industry and needing to drive to support his brother.

Edward Clarke, of Bloomfield Terrace in London, drove an Aston Martin Vanquish along New Road in Chiseldon faster than 30mph on September 10 2021.

For this, the 65-year-old received a six-month driving ban after having six points added to his licence. He was ordered to pay a £667 fine, £110 court costs and £67 to victim services.

Mohammed Ali, of Bevisland in Swindon, drove above the 40mph speed limit in a BMW on Queens Drive on July 28 2021.

The 36-year-old could have been disqualified from driving but did not get banned because of special circumstances, namely the effect the ban would have on his business, employees and family.

He received a £253 fine and three penalty points on his licence, and was ordered to pay £34 to victim services plus £110 in court costs.

Richard Kirkby, of Marlborough Road in Swindon, went faster than the 30mph limit on London Road in Marlborough while driving a Mercedes Benz on April 8 2021.

The 53-year-old was banned from driving for 14 days, fined £500 and ordered to pay £110 court costs plus £50 to victim services.

Stefan Cooper, of Twickenham Close in Swindon, drove an Audi A3 along Purley Road in Liddington at more than 30mph on July 31 2021.

The 33-year-old received four points on his licence and a £307 fine, and ordered to pay £34 to victim services plus £110 court costs.
