Chelmsford murder: Boyfriend charged with stabbing Canadian girlfriend to death after she flew to England to visit him

Police have charged a boyfriend with murdering his Canadian girlfriend who flew to visit him in Essex for the “trip of a lifetime”. Jack Sepple, 23, of Tennyson Road, Chelmsford, will appear in Colchester Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday, February 4) following the charge.

Officers rushed to the scene in Tennyson Road at around 4pm on Tuesday (February 1) after worried neighbours reported “a disturbance” and called the police. The victim, named previously as Ashley Wadsworth, 19, from Vernon, Canada, was pronounced dead at the scene despite the best efforts of paramedics.

The teenager had flown to England to see her boyfriend in the weeks leading up to her death. Her anguished sister wrote on Facebook: “My poor baby sister we will get justice baby girl I love you so much I miss you every day your big sissy loves you.”

While in England, Ashley shared photos on social media of her trip around various tourist spots, posting selfies with Jack captioned “my bestie” and “Jack and I”, The Sun reports.

Paramedics tried to save Ms Wadsworth but she was pronounced dead at the scene

Tributes have poured in for the young woman on Facebook. Larissa wrote: “She had a ticket for this Thursday to come back home to people who love her dearly. You will never be forgotten my girly. And I’ll miss you so much!”

Ashley’s aunt, Rosie Turcotte, wrote on Facebook: “I am so angry, sad and f*****g mad. Want to say so much right now, but mama always said if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all. Another special Angel gone way too soon.”

Essex Police have confirmed they are not looking for any other suspects in relation to the death. Officers are appealing for anyone with CCTV footage to come forward.

Detective Chief Inspector Scott Egerton, the senior investigating officer on the case, said: “I know that incidents like this will shock and sadden the community, but our initial enquiries show this to be an isolated incident and that there is no wider risk to the community. Currently, we are not looking for anyone else.

“We have a team of dedicated officers working around the clock to establish the circumstances which led to a woman losing her life. The investigation is progressing well, but we will remain on scene for a few more days whilst we continue to gather evidence and establish the facts.”

Ms Wadsworth’s family are being supported by specialist officers.
