‘I was shouted at for being wet when it was raining’: Shocking Google reviews of the ‘London’s worst restaurant’

We’ve all made the mistake of going into a restaurant without first checking it out online.

Sometimes you’re either in too much of a rush to squeeze in lunch between various engagements, hurrying to find some shelter from the Great British Weather – or simply can’t be bothered.

But anyone who visited one particular restaurant in London, now permanently closed down according to Google, might think twice before making the same mistake again.

Before it recently closed down, Palace Restaurant Cafe, at number 13 Buckingham Palace Rd, was the worst-rated restaurant in London, according to Google reviews left over the last year.

At least the café has left a lasting legacy, as customers can still read the Google reviews, some of which are so dire it’s surprising the café didn’t shut down sooner.

One Google user actually found the reviews so entertaining they admitted: “Coming back to this page to read the bad reviews has been a tradition of mine for a couple of years now.”

Scrolling down, it’s not hard to see the comedy value in some of the reviews.

Among the final comments, left around two months ago, someone described the café as an “absolute disgrace of a place.”

They wrote: “I’m one who loves nothing more than a good cafe burger but this place was a joke.

“Interior smelled not unlike a corpse that’s had cheese thrown at it, staff were unfriendly and uncaring, toilets were disgustingly filthy and I just had a terrible terrible time.”

However, they did add: “10/10 would go back if I was hungover.”

“How is this restaurant not shut down yet?” someone else demanded to know.

Around the same time, another less-than-impressed customer left the following review: “This Place epitomizes a Cockroach.”
