‘I was shouted at for being wet when it was raining’: Shocking Google reviews of the ‘London’s worst restaurant’

9

We’ve all made the mistake of going into a restaurant without first checking it out online.

Sometimes you’re either in too much of a rush to squeeze in lunch between various engagements, hurrying to find some shelter from the Great British Weather – or simply can’t be bothered.

But anyone who visited one particular restaurant in London, now permanently closed down according to Google, might think twice before making the same mistake again.

Before it recently closed down, Palace Restaurant Cafe, at number 13 Buckingham Palace Rd, was the worst-rated restaurant in London, according to Google reviews left over the last year.

At least the café has left a lasting legacy, as customers can still read the Google reviews, some of which are so dire it’s surprising the café didn’t shut down sooner.

One Google user actually found the reviews so entertaining they admitted: “Coming back to this page to read the bad reviews has been a tradition of mine for a couple of years now.”

Scrolling down, it’s not hard to see the comedy value in some of the reviews.

Among the final comments, left around two months ago, someone described the café as an “absolute disgrace of a place.”

They wrote: “I’m one who loves nothing more than a good cafe burger but this place was a joke.

“Interior smelled not unlike a corpse that’s had cheese thrown at it, staff were unfriendly and uncaring, toilets were disgustingly filthy and I just had a terrible terrible time.”

However, they did add: “10/10 would go back if I was hungover.”

“How is this restaurant not shut down yet?” someone else demanded to know.

Around the same time, another less-than-impressed customer left the following review: “This Place epitomizes a Cockroach.”

“Not only does it have the ability to seemingly survive for Mundane yet Elongated periods of Time,” they reasoned, “yet their Food and Restaurant is rather resembling of a Hive of Wretched Insects, Characterised by Pre Historic Decor.”

Other customers who had been unfortunate enough to end up there were quick to get on Google and issue warnings to their fellow Londoners.

“All visitors enter at your own risk,” exclaimed one person, who added: “I was been generous by giving them a 1 star I wanted to give them a minus 0.”

“Gordon Ramsay would have a stroke if he ever visits this place,” grumbled someone else, as another person added: “If only Gordon Ramsay was still doing Kitchen Nightmares.”

One recent visitor wrote the following hilarious review after a run-in with a staff member on a rainy day: “I walked in when the women at the front immediately started shouting at me for being wet as it was raining!”

“DO NOT VISIT THIS PLACE EVER!!!!!” warned one customer who visited three weeks ago, describing the food as “absolutely horrible.”

They described how they had “ordered fish & chips, chips came out hard as a rock and fish was very slimy as if it wasn’t cooked long enough.

“The lady also charged me more than the menu price.”

And they weren’t the only person complaining about the prices in the café.
