Heathrow and Gatwick: The beautiful city less than 90 minutes from London with ‘Europe’s best Christmas market’

Christmas in London is not complete until you’ve taken a trip to the Christmas markets at Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park.

Although it might be too busy and pricey for some, tens of thousands of people descend on the park every day during December to get into the festive spirit with their friends, families and partners.

Although undoubtedly one of the biggest Christmas displays in Europe, a much smaller city has come out miles ahead of London after being branded “Europe’s best Christmas market”.

A new study has just picked out the best Christmas markets from around Europe – and London has only just managed to scrape inside the top 10.

Meanwhile, a festive fair that lies 400 miles north of the capital has been named the best in Europe – the Scottish capital city of Edinburgh, home to less than 500,000 people.

Renowned worldwide for its incredible Christmas market that has been running since 1999, Edinburgh was recognised as the longest-running market (54 days), giving festive shoppers plenty of time to purchase gifts and enjoy the festivities.

The festive market, which scored 8.14 out of 10, also came top in the “Instagrammable” stakes, scoring highest on photo-taking opportunities with the picturesque site in Princes Street Gardens ideal for a memorable snap or two to share on social media.

The research by ChristmasTreeWorld.co.uk analysed 65 Christmas markets throughout Europe on a number of factors to calculate their Christmas Market Score, with Edinburgh beating out the likes of Prague and Vienna to be named the best in the continent.

It was also the second most popular Christmas Market according to Google searches and was the only Scottish market to make the list – with London, Manchester and Birmingham also reaching the top 10.

Flights to Edinburgh from Heathrow and Gatwick airports can take as little as one hour and 15 minutes – with budget airline Easyjet offering return tickets for as cheap as £46 this festive season.
