The incredible restaurant in London Bridge that gives jobs to homeless and vulnerable people

An incredible London restaurant that helps train and provide jobs for the homeless and vulnerable people is exactly where you should be booking a table for your weekend plans.

Brigade Bar + Kitchen in London Bridge is a social enterprise restaurant that’s supported over 6,000 vulnerable people impacted by homelessness, trauma, drug and alcohol addiction, crime and social exclusion through its special training programmes.

Those who enrol on the courses rebuild their confidence and self-esteem, with a sixth of those later gaining full-time employment in the hospitality industry.

The restaurant specialises in live-fire dinners

The restaurant is located in a Grade II-listed fire station on Tooley Street, and specialises in “live-fire” dinners – which gives their food such as slow smoked short rib and barbecued vegetables that extra wow factor.

It was founded 10 years ago by the British chef, and author, Simon Boyle.

Simon’s innovative work has been praised by Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, as “ethical capitalism” and “social enterprise at its best”, and has been visited by renowned chefs such as Michel Roux Jr and Shay Cooper.

Simon and the team will be hosting ‘Feast with Purpose’ on Saturday (November 13), which marks 10 years since the Brigade’s opening.

They will serve a spectacular four-course seafood dinner with sustainable produce.

Fishmongers have proudly supported the business over the last decade, and this event will pay homage to them as well as the thousands of vulnerable people whose lives have changed for the better since training under Simon.

Simon added that he is “so proud” of everything Brigade Bar + Kitchen has achieved over the last 10 years.

He said: “I’m so proud of what we have achieved Brigade and Beyond Food over the last 10 years. When we set up, the vision was to create an inspiring place that helps poor people from the brink of homelessness.

“We wanted to support people that had lost the thread of life, and helped them to grab hold of the opportunity that we provide with both hands to pull themselves up, stand on their own two feet and start to contribute to society in a meaningful way.

“We also wanted to create a high-quality restaurant and event space to provide the perfect training platform for our beneficiaries and an amazing, fantastic place to eat, dine and be inspired for our guests.”

He added that he can’t wait to see what the next 12 months has in store for the restaurant.

Simon explained: “We truly believe that we have some of the best live fire dishes in London, and can’t wait to share these with more and more people over the course of the next 12 months.

“After a decade, our plans to continue to succeed and scale our methodology to other parts of the country. This will be the vision for the next ten years.”
