Hilton Food Group has bought Fairfax Meadow, the UK’s biggest catering butcher, for nearly £24 million.
The meat-packing business, which generated £2.8 billion in revenue last year, purchased 100 per cent of Fairfax in cash, from Argent Holdings.
Formed by a small group of North London butchers in the 1970s, Fairfax supplies meat to businesses across the UK including Tesco, the supermarket group. It generated £4.4 million in profit in 2019 but made a £2.3 million loss last year due to the impact of Covid.
Hilton said Fairfax’s “business is now recovering strongly from the impacts of Covid-19, as the UK hospitality and travel sectors fully reopen.”
