With art exhibitions getting increasingly immersive, maybe it was only a matter of time before the Sistine Chapel’s entire ceiling was digitally downloaded from the Vatican, and uploaded to a warehouse in Tottenham.

Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition arrives in north London later this October, using high definition, actual-sized photography of Michelangelo’s piece de resistance and printing them onto the walls and ceiling of the Cannon Factory.

The special printing technique, we’re told, emulates every colour and brushstroke of the original 34 frescoes in Rome. The difference here is that you can get up close to the ‘paintings’, and appreciate them from a more comfortable perspective (presumably there’s not so much queuing or craning your neck).

You needn’t get on an easyJet, either.

Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel: The Exhibition, Cannon Factory, Tottenham, from 15 October 2021 (Wednesdays-Sundays). From £13.20 for adults
