David Moyes positive for season ahead despite his warning of a slow summer transfer market

David Moyes does not believe West Ham fans are frustrated with the Hammers’ lack of transfer business but insists the club have lodged bids for a number of players.

So far this summer West Ham have brought in a number of teenage prospects and agreed a deal to take Alphonse Areola from Paris Saint-Germain on an initial season-long loan, but have failed to capture any major outfield signings.

Areola adds competition for places in goal but after the exits of Fabian Balbuena and Jesse Lingard the West Ham squad is on the light side going into a busy campaign with European football to consider.

The Hammers are reported to be close to a deal for Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic and have had a keen interest in Chelsea’s Kurt Zouma but no deal has as yet been sealed for either defender.

The Hammers are keen to add a striker to their ranks with the lack of options upfront a huge bone of contention for many West Ham supporters, though Moyes is confident the fans are content with the successful team he has built.

“I don’t think West Ham supporters are frustrated, I think they’re realising how good the team has been,” Moyes said.

“So many will be coming back to see new players who they’ve not seen for the last 18 months who have been doing really well.”

With 18 days remaining in the transfer window, West Ham still have time to add to their squad before the end of the month and Moyes made it clear this is the aim.

“We are trying to add to the squad if we can,” said Moyes. “We’ve had and we’ve got some offers in for people but not everything is coming to fruition. We’ll do our best to add to the squad before the close of the window.

“It has been a difficult window because the market in general is very quiet. There has been money spent at the top end but it has been quiet overall. We hope to add to it.”
