The only 3 places in the world where a pint of beer costs more than London

It’s a real pity that a beer-loving nation like England has a capital city notorious for overpriced lagers, ales and IPAs.

But we are not alone after a new study identified three cities in the world with more expensive beer than London.

According to research by money.co.uk, the average cost of a pint in London is £5 – but many Londoners would probably consider that to be a conservative estimate based on their own drinking experiences in the capital.

That said things could be worse – the average cost of a pint in San Francisco is £5.73, the most expensive on the list according to the study.

In Melbourne, Australia, the average price for a pint is £5.21 and in Boston, USA, it’s £5.01, making London the fourth most expensive place to buy a pint in the world.

London has more than 200 breweries and pubs have been jam-packed since lockdown restrictions were lifted, with many people unable to book a table.

Despite the high prices our interest in beer hasn’t dwindled, but where should the aficionado go for the cheapest beer?

According to the study, the cheapest pints can be found in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where the average price for a pint is £1.17 – meaning you could have four beers for the price of one London pint, with change to spare.

The second cheapest is in Prague, a popular European stag do destination where the average pint is a mere £1.34.

Mexico City has the third cheapest pint at £1.41.

The study ranked cities according to four different criteria to come up with the 10 best in the world for beer drinkers.

Edinburgh ranked 16th with the Scottish capital has the fourth most bars, pubs and clubs at 4.45 per 10,000 people.

Dublin takes eighth place with 5.66 bars, clubs and pubs per 10,000.

But the city is notorious for an expensive pint and has the fifth most expensive on the list at £4.70.

In comparison London, which has a population of nearly nine million people, has 0.23 bars, pubs and clubs per 100,000.
