East London water live: Updates as Thames Water ‘fixes fault’ which left homes without water

Thousands of households in East London were left with no or low running water for hours before Thames Water said it managed to fix the problem.

Residents across a range of postcodes have complained in recent days about low water pressure.

But on Monday morning (January 18), many East Londoners said their water stopped running completely.

In a statement on its website at 8am on Monday, Thames Water said: “Thanks for letting us know about low water pressure and no water in E1, E2, E3, E5, E8 & E9.

“Our specialist engineers are already on their way to investigate the problem, and they will be doing everything they can to get things up and running as quickly as possible.

“We’re really sorry if this has disrupted your day. We know this has happened at a difficult time.”

MyLondon contacted Thames Water for more information and later in the morning a spokesperson said there was an “issue with a valve which controls the flow of water thought the pipes but it’s been resolved now”.

They added: “We were contacted by around 100 customers reporting low pressure. We’re sorry for any disruption the low water pressure has caused this morning.”

This is the second time East London has been hit by water trouble in recent months.

In October, a burst pipe in the Hackney Marshes area left thousands of residents with no water or low water pressure.

Anyone still experiencing issues should contact Thames Water.
