Away Again: Manchester City Start and Finish New Season in West London

The fixtures for the 2024/25 season have been announced and it will be absolutely no surprise to anyone that Manchester City start their season away from home, this time at Chelsea. The Blues, aiming for a fifth consecutive title in what could be Pep Guardiola’s final season, will visit Stamford Bridge on Sunday 18th August, eight days after facing United in the Community Shield.

It will be City’s eighth consecutive away start in the Premier League and the tenth time in 11 seasons.

Their first home match will be against new boys Ipswich Town, who return to the Premier League in a baptism of fire, having hosted Liverpool on the opening weekend. The Blues then see out August with a return trip to London to face West Ham at the London Stadium.

Big Six and Derbies

With the excitement of the fixtures release comes the inevitable ‘when are we playing that lot’ in reference to the Stretford Rangers. The Blues will be looking for revenge after their FA Cup Final defeat in May and their first opportunity will be in the Community Shield on 10th August. Blues fans will have to wait until December to face the Reds in the league, when United visit Manchester on 14th December. The return match takes place on 5th April in Stretford.

In September, Arsenal visit, which is followed by a trip to Newcastle the following weekend. November is a potentially tough month, with City travelling to Bournemouth and Brighton in consecutive matches, then facing Spurs at home before travelling to Merseyside for their annual defeat to Liverpool.

But it’s February that sees the toughest test for City. After a home match with Chelsea at the end of January, City travel to Arsenal, host Liverpool and Newcastle, then return to London to face Spurs.

Christmas and Easter

The Christmas period has been fairly kind to City this year. A trip to Aston Villa is the last match before the festive period, followed by a home match with Everton. New boys Leicester City await in the final game of 2024 and a home match with West Ham welcomes the New Year in.

Easter arrives on 20th April in 2025 and City will make the short trip to face Everton at Goodison Park.

Title Run-In

Hopefully, City and Pep will be in the title race once more and the fixture list has been kind to City. Having already played their expected title rivals, City face Leicester City at home, before travelling over the border to face United. A home match against Palace is followed by the Easter trip to Goodison, with April finishing at home to Villa.

A home match against Wolves and an away trip to Southampton follow, with City signing the Etihad season off with a visit by Bournemouth. If the title is decided on the final day, then City will have to overcome Fulham at Craven Cottage to take a fifth consecutive crown.
