A406 / M11 crash: Man in life-threatening condition

The A406 North Circular Southbound has been shut for over nine hours after the crash between the M11 at J4 in South Woodford and Eastern Avenue at Redbridge Roundabout today (June 15).

The Metropolitan Police said the force was alerted after 4.31am that Essex Police chased a car that failed to stop along the M11 in Essex.

This chase eventually led to the Met area of the motorway near Redbridge Roundabout.

Essex officers confirmed the car in the pursuit crashed into a barrier along the A406, before leaving the carriageway.

The driver of that car was taken to hospital where he remains in a life-threatening condition.

No one else was injured, the Metropolitan Police said.

A spokesperson added: “A scene – managed by the Met due to it being in our area – is in place. Met officers were not involved in the pursuit.”

There are severe delays in the area and congestion to Cooks Ferry Interchange in Chingford, as well as roads in Woodford and Walthamstow

Enquiries into the incident continue.
