Chelsfield Orpington station: Person dies after being hit by train

A casualty on the tracks was reported to police at Chelsfield station shortly after 8.15pm yesterday (April 24).

Two ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an advanced paramedic, an incident response officer, and members of the Hazardous Area Response Team also attended.

The person was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Southeastern Railway confirmed on X (formally known as Twitter) that all lines were closed.

Trains were unable to run between Orpington and Sevenoaks as the incident was being dealt with.

The lines reopened just after 10.30pm and all disruptions were cleared at around 12.30am today (April 25).

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “We were called to Chelsfield station shortly after 8.15pm last night (Wednesday 24 April) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 8:15pm yesterday (April 24) to reports of an incident at Chelsfield Station, Orpington, BR6.

“We sent resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an advanced paramedic, and an incident response officer and members of our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).

“We also dispatched a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance by car.

“Sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
