Hainault latest: Police giving update after teenage boy killed in east London sword attack

The last person to speak is Wes Streeting, MP for Ilford North, which includes Hainault where the attacks took place.

“I can’t imagine what the poor boy’s family are going through,” Streeting says, referring to the 14-year-old who died, before thanking the “heroic” response of the emergency services.

He says he’s come straight from a meeting with the mayor of London and will keep local residents updated as best he can.

“Our community deserves answers,” he says – before urging people to refrain from speculating about what happened on social media.

With that, the news conference draws to a close. Stay tuned for a round-up of the key lines.
