Chara smiles at finish of Boston Marathon, plans to run London next week

Former Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara ran in his second Boston Marathon on Monday and flashed a huge grin as he crossed the finish line.He finished the race in 3:30:52 and seemed excited to be running another major marathon next week. “It was lots of fun,” he said. “Always a different condition from last year, but it was amazing. The fans were just so loud and cheering us on. It was an amazing day. I enjoyed it very much. It was just a great day to be running a marathon.” Chara ran for the second consecutive year as a charity fundraiser. The Boston Athletic Association App said he raised more than $25,000 for the Hoyt Foundation and he said that he was also working with the Thomas E. Smith Foundation. “I’m just using my platform to help them, but all the credit should go to all the people helping, donating and doing all the work for anybody who is supporting a good cause,” he said. He ran again with Rebecca Pizzi, a Massachusetts native, who became the first American woman to complete the World Marathon Challenge back in 2016. The challenge is a series of seven marathons on seven continents in seven consecutive days.Pizzi finished on Monday with a time of 3:13:50. “It’s a great day for our city. Everyone loves the captain,” she said, referring to Chara. “The city was buzzing today.
