Brentford and Manchester United round off a busy Saturday of Premier League action when they meet at the Gtech Community Stadium in an 8pm kick-off.

The Bees have been sucked into the relegation battle after losing 12 of their last 15 top-flight matches, but they are still scoring, netting in 11 of their previous 13.

United’s form has been up and down pretty much all season, but they are still pushing for a top-four finish and will be boosted by their 4-3 extra-time victory over Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals before the international break.

Team news

Brentford will be without the suspended Sergio Reguilon following his sending-off against Burnley, but Ethan Pinnock could return after over a month out with an ankle issue.

Bryan Mbeumo returned as a late substitute against Burnley after his own ankle issue and the Cameroon forward could now be handed his first start since early December.

United’s hero against Liverpool, Amad Diallo, is suspended after being shown a second yellow card for over-celebrating his match-winning goal against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

There are also doubts surrounding the fitness of Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans and Casemiro, but Lisandro Martinez is nearing a return after a recent knee issue.

The stats

Brentford have lost 12 of their last 15 Premier League games and their tally of seven points over that period is the lowest of any side in the division.

Since beating Luton at the Gtech Community Stadium on December 2, Thomas Frank has only seen his side win once at home – January’s 3-2 success over Nottingham Forest.

The Bees are still scoring though, as both teams have found the back of the net in 11 of their last 13 league matches.

United have won eight of their last 10 matches across all competitions, although they did suffer defeat in their last away game – a 3-1 reverse to Manchester City.

The last three matches Erik ten Hag’s side have been involved in have seen a total of 13 goals scored, most notably their seven-goal thriller in the cup against Liverpool.

Saturday’s match will mark the third time Brentford and Manchester United have faced off at the Gtech Community Stadium, with the previous two such encounters yielding over 3.5 goals.

Prediction

There is plenty riding on this match but that should not stop it being an open and entertaining encounter that could well be filled with goals.

Of sides starting this weekend in the bottom eight, only Luton have scored more goals than Brentford’s total of 41 and, with Mbeumo back fit and Ivan Toney fresh from scoring his first England goal during the week, the Bees should pack a punch in the final third.

Brentford are certainly capable of scoring against a United defence that is heading to west London with plenty of fitness concerns.

However, keeping the Red Devils out at the other end could be more of a concern for the hosts, as United have scored in 14 matches on the spin and are fresh from putting four past Liverpool.

The outcome of this game may be difficult to call, but one thing that should not be in doubt is the likelihood of goals.
