The Asparagus Battersea Wetherspoons permanently closes

The Asparagus was among four other Wetherspoons in south London which were put up for sale in September 2022.

These were the Wrong Un in Bexleyheath, the Capitol in Forest Hill, the Bankers Draft in Eltham, and Foxley Hutch in Purley.

A spokesperson for Wetherspoons confirmed the Falcon Road pub closed its doors for good on March 17.

The chain made a commercial decision to sell the pubs which will continue to operate as Wetherspoons outlets until they are sold.

The Wrong Un is the only south London Wetherspoons that is currently under offer and will close once a deal goes through.

The Bankers Draft, in Eltham High Street, closed its doors on August 20, almost a year after it was put up for sale.

The Capitol, in London Road, also shut its doors for good on October 15.

The Foxley Hatch was the latest south London Wetherspoons to close which shut on December 3.

Senior director at CBRE, Toby Hall, said the pubs represent an “excellent” opportunity for existing pub operators.

He adds that there is a mix of locations in the portfolio which is rarely seen in the market.

The chain, founded by businessman Tim Martin, operates around 800 pubs around the UK and Ireland.
