A manhunt is underway in south west London this evening after reports a “girl was shot” on the streets the busy neighbourhood.
Police and ambulance crews rushed to the scene in Clapham shortly before 5pm on Friday evening after reports of gunfire.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police told Express.co.uk: “At 4.55pm on Friday, March 1 police were in pursuit of a moped that had failed to stop in the Clapham area. A firearm, believed to be a shotgun, was discharged from the moped in the vicinity of Clapham Common South Side.
“Two people sustained shotgun pellet injuries. A third person was injured by the moped. The suspects fled the scene.
London Ambulance Service paramedics have taken the injured people to hospital.
“While we await formal assessments, at this stage we don’t believe any of those injured to be in a life-threatening condition.
A crime scene is in place and urgent enquiries to trace the moped are ongoing. There have been no arrests at this stage. Firearms officers are searching the area.
Pictures shared on social media show a huge police presence in Clapham Common, with one showing four police cars and two ambulances at a set of traffifc lights on Clapham Common South Side, with a police cordon in place. Eyewitnesses have reported hearing “gunfire” in the busy London suburb, while another claimed that a girl was “shot” while crossing the street.
Anyone who saw the moped, or captured the incident on dash cam, should call 101 ref CAD 5008/1 Mar. According to traffic monitoring website Inrix, the A3 Clapham High Street is closed in both directions between B224 The Pavement (Clapham Common Station) and A24 Clapham Common South Side due to a police incident. Local diversions are in operation and London bus routes 35, 37, 50, 88, 137, 155, 322, 345 and 417 are affected.
