Where to celebrate St Patrick’s Day in North London 2024

There’s sure to be Guinness, whiskey, silly hats and shamrock bunting at the many celebrations of Ireland’s patron saint on Sunday, March 17th.

And if that’s not all, Saturday 16th sees the finale of the Six Nations rugby with the Ireland team hotly tipped to lift the trophy after taking on Scotland in Dublin.

London has the largest population of Irish in the UK so celebrate by joining the capital’s Irish diaspora in painting the town green.

Picklebacks at The 411 in Angel

This Islington bar will enjoy a green takeover on March 17th with shots of Baby Guinness specially priced at £5 and the popular Picklebacks, the shot-and-chaser combination of Irish whiskey and pickle brine, on offer for £7. Pints of the black stuff will be well-priced at £6, and everyone is invited to drop by and party in honour of St Patrick.

Camden Market is hosting a St Patrick’s Day Festival across March 16th and 17th from 2pm – 9pm around what was the old Proud gallery. Programmed by the team behind Camden Oktoberfest, expect food traders, fun and games, live performances by Irish bands, award-winning Irish dancers, and a dedicated Guinness bar – with an hour of bottomless Guinness costing £25. Booking essential.

Whiskey Cocktails and trad sessions in Nancy Spains

This ‘modern Irish pub’ celebrates its opening in Curtain Street, Shoreditch over St Patrick’s weekend. The owners hail from County Kerry and know how to put on a party, with the black stuff coming courtesy of Murphy’s and a cocktail menu based around Jameson’s Whiskey. The pub opens at noon on Friday 15. On Saturday 16 there’s 2,500 pints of Murphy’s up for grabs at the bargain price of £2.50, and a “well-known Irish duo” playing live with DJs on later. The 17th will see Irish traditional music sessions from 5pm-7pm and more live music from 7.30pm-midnight.

B*Witched at Boxpark Wembley 

House of Jameson have magicked up the iconic Irish girl band B*WITCHED to headline at Boxpark Wembley on Friday March 15. They’re sure to play some of their huge hits including C’est La Vie and Rollercoaster during an evening that runs from 6pm to 11pm with live music, games, food, and plenty of Jameson to wash it down with. Families are welcome but post 8pm anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian.

Party with Panti Bliss in Trafalgar Square

50,000 people are expected to join the London Mayor’s St Patrick’s Day parade which starts at noon at Hyde Park Corner and processes down Piccadilly to Trafalgar Square where there’s a programme of music, talks, film, demos and dancing until 6pm. With Irish drag queen Panti Bliss as Grand Marshal, the programme has been put together in partnership with Camden’s London Irish Centre.

Get jiggy with Jiggy at the Irish Centre

The centre in Camden Square is holding its own Big St Patrick’s Festival Party on March 16 with comedy, dance and Trad fusion band Jiggy. “Jiggy’s music is a riot of colours and sounds, an explosive mix of traditional Irish music and contemporary global beats that will leave you breathless and exhilarated” reads the blurb. Tickets £22.50.

Paint the town green in King’s Cross

Irish pub O’Neill’s is starting the celebrations early with live music on Monday March 11 as well as Thursday 14th to Sunday 17th all day from 12pm.
