They’re hot property in Hollywood, but as this picture of Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Paul Mescal prove, they still carry on life like, er, normal people.

The pair were seen sharing a joke and a cigarette outside London’s National Theatre on Wednesday after watching a performance of Lucy Prebble’s play The Effect.

Fleabag star Phoebe, 38, clutched a glass of red wine as she laughed with the Irish actor, who found fame in the adaptation of Sally Rooney’s bestselling novel, Normal People.

Wearing a suede jacket and knee-high brown boots, Phoebe – who won a BAFTA and two Golden Globes for Fleabag and further gongs for writing Killing Eve – was clearly in high spirits at the event.

Paul, 27, who is filming the sequel to Ridley Scott’s movie Gladiator, wore a navy bomber jacket and jeans for the evening out.

They likely had much to catch up on. Phoebe co-wrote the screenplay for Bond movie, No Time To Die, and is developing a Tomb Raider series for Amazon Prime.

Paul will star in upcoming sci-fi thriller Foe and British fantasy drama Strangers.

The Effect has drawn a large celebrity crowd in recent days, including Tom Hiddleston and James Corden.

The play originally premiered at the National in 2012, with Billie Piper and Jonjo O’Neill as Connie and Tristan, two strangers who fall in love during a clinical drug trial.

The play has been revived for a two-month run with Taylor Russell and Paapa Essiedu.
