London Evening Standard to become a free evening newspaper

The move will happen on Monday October 12 and is designed to more than double its distribution to 600,000 copies.

The paper currently sells around 250,000 copies and is 75.1 percent owned by Alexander Lebedev and 24.9 percent owned by Associated newspapers.

This move is likely to have implications for Associated Newspapers’ existing free evening paper the London Lite.

The lifestyle-led London Lite’s previous biggest rival was News International’s thelondonpaper, which printed its final issue last month.
