Eight North London community energy projects receive funding

The funding from mayor of London Sadiq Khan ‘give[s] London a chance of meeting Net Zero’

Eight community energy schemes in Haringey and Enfield have been selected by Sadiq Khan to receive funding.

New River Sports Centre (£4,500 towards solar panels), Fortismere Project (£4,350 towards solar panels), Summerland Gardens (£15,000 towards a solar canopy) and Greening the Green (£7,240 towards ‘greening’ the Muswell Hill Golf Club) are among those chosen.

The grants come from mayor of London Sadiq Khan as part of investment towards Net Zero London.

Figures from the London Assembly show Khan has invested in 167 projects.

Joanne McCartney, London Assembly member for Haringey and Enfield, said: “Given rising energy costs and a climate emergency, we know that community energy projects are more important than ever.

“I’m thrilled to see our area benefit from this scheme. These eight projects will help our community save money – all the while contributing to London’s Net Zero goal.

“Thank you to all the community groups who have taken part so far – we hope the mayor responds to calls and builds on the success of his programme by opening funding for a seventh round.”
