Abdul Ezedi: New picture of acid attack suspect released as manhunt continues | UK | News

Police searching for Abdul Ezedi issued a major update as the manhunt for the acid attack suspect continues. Two new images have been released showing Ezedi with what appears to be a bloodied eye.

In the latest images, he can be seen walking through King’s Cross Underground station.

The Metropolitan Police said the 31-year-old mother who was attacked with chemicals alongside her two children, aged three and eight, sustained “life-changing” injuries.

The force made a personal appeal to Ezedi to hand himself in during a statement on Friday afternoon.

Confirming that Ezedi remained on the run, Commander Jon Savell, of Scotland Yard, said two homes in east London had been raided as part of the investigation, as well as three in Newcastle.

However, police reiterated that the public should not approach Ezedi.

He added: “Last night, five search warrants were executed. Two in east London and three up in Newcastle.

“We’ve recovered important and significant pieces of evidence that will help with our investigation.”

Speaking of the victim, who was doused in liquid in Lessar Avenue, near Clapham Common, he said: “She is sedated at the moment. We expect that those injuries will be life-changing.

“Thankfully we’ve had an update from the hospital that the two young children that were with her, their injuries are not as serious as first thought and are not likely to be life-changing.

“They remain with mum in the care of the NHS and we of course wish them the very best recovery we can.”

On Wednesday, Ezedi sparked a nationwide manhunt after he was accused of a horrific acid attack on a mother and two girls in south London.

After going on the run, three of the UK’s biggest police forces joined together in a bid to locate the missing man.

Police warned the public not to approach Ezedi, a convicted sex offender – saying that they should instead call 999 immediately if they spotted him.

A further nine people were injured as they tried to help the injured trio. Three women, two in their 30s and one in her 50s, were taken to hospital after they were injured while helping the family. They were discharged with minor burns injuries.

A man in his 50s who also helped declined hospital treatment for minor injuries. The five responding police officers who were injured were taken to hospital and later discharged.

In the hours following the horrific incident, further details about the 35-year-old man emerged, including that he was believed to have fled London for Newcastle, travelling by car.

Ezedi is a convicted sex offender and according to the BBC hails from Afghanistan.

Giving details of the alleged attacker, Superintendent Gabriel Cameron said Ezedi “had significant injuries to the right side of his face”.

In a bid for more information, police yesterday released an image taken around 70 minutes after the attack in Clapham.

Supt Cameron said the reason for the attack is not yet known. “We know it is a corrosive alkaline substance,” he said. “We can buy all sorts in the high street.”

The police representative had “no idea of the suspect’s motivation” but was “wholeheartedly confident we will catch him”.
