The finalists for the London Sport Awards 2024 have been revealed, spotlighting the commendable contributions of community volunteers, local organizations, charities, and grassroot teams in improving the lives of Londoners through sport and fitness. The shortlist this year is comprised of 28 nominees across 10 categories, selected from an unprecedented 415 nominations.

Nominees Championing Youth and Health

South London has a strong representation in the shortlist, with nominees such as MovementWorks and Spencer Lynx vying for the Supporting Young Londoners Award. They have been recognized for their tireless efforts to promote equal access to sport and physical activities for disadvantaged children. In the Health & Wellbeing Award category, Mind in Croydon, Black Prince Trust, and GLL Healthy Lifestyle have been shortlisted for their initiatives aimed at supporting the physical well-being of underserved London residents.

Finalists Fostering Community and Innovation

London South Bank University has earned a nomination for the Digital and Tech Innovation Award, highlighting the role of technology in advancing sports. In a rare occurrence, two organizations, Sports Fun 4 All and Disability Sports Coach, have been nominated in two categories – the Uniting London Award and the Community Impact Award, testament to their significant influence on local communities. They are joined by Cycle Sisters in both categories, a group promoting cycling among women.

Business and Volunteer Contributions

Decathlon, a renowned sports retailer, is vying for the Business Contribution Award, reflecting the essential role of commercial organizations in promoting sports. In the Volunteer of the Year category, Allan Cockram, founder of the Brentford Penguins Football Club for children with Down Syndrome, is a standout nominee for his commitment to inclusive sports opportunities.

The finalists were selected by a distinguished panel of judges, including Paralympian Anne Wafula Strike, MBE, who lauded the nominees for their significant role in supporting the physical activity of Londoners. The award ceremony is slated to be held at the historic Guildhall in Central London in March 2024, where the compelling stories of the nominees will be celebrated through films and photography created by students from Ravensbourne University.
