An XL bully has been found dead with burn marks on its legs and a fractured skull in south London, the RSPCA has said.
The animal welfare charity is appealing for information after the dog was found in an alleyway in Waltham Road, Carshalton, with its burnt legs bound together.
An RSPCA spokesperson said one of the dog’s ears had also been cut off.
The discovery, which the charity called “shocking,” came on 30 December – a day before the start of a ban on the breed.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced the restrictions earlier this year after branding the breed a “danger to communities” following a string of attacks.
People have until 31 January to apply for an exemption certificate to keep their dog – and must have it neutered, microchipped and insured.

The RSPCA, which opposes the ban, previously warned it could lead to an influx of the dogs being taken to animal shelters or abandoned.
Harriet Daliday, RSPCA inspector, said: “It is deeply concerning that the dog was found with his legs tied together and had been set on fire.
“The dog also had one of his ears cut off.
“We are appealing for anyone who has any information about this incident to contact us in complete confidence.”
