Charlton Athletic are interested in a deal for West Ham defensive midfielder Conor Coventry.
The South London Press understands that the Addicks are big admirers of the 23-year-old, who has been capped at U21 level by the Republic of Ireland.
Coventry was a big hit on loan for Milton Keynes in the 2021-22 season. He joined them in the January transfer window and made 22 appearances as they finished third in League One.
He had a spell with Rotherham United in the second half of the last campaign.
Coventry’s West Ham deal runs until the end of June.
Then Millers boss Matt Taylor sang the praises of Coventry in April. He told the Rotherham Advertiser: “I love Conor to bits.
“He’s been excellent for us. His attitude, his endeavour, his intent, his out-of-possession work and the load he’s got through in a short space of time, we’ve been delighted with all of that.
“Conor is playing a certain role for us and has a certain responsibility. We might not always be playing to his footballing strengths in terms of how we set up the team. He’s been important for us, no question.
“He is having his first real run in the Championship and will have learned so much in his 15-20 matches by the time the season is over. He will go back to West Ham in a much better shape, with an understanding of his own game.
“I feel he is improving. As all young players do, he’s had a few ups and downs in form. He’s constantly getting tested by the Championship and he’s coming through it.”
Coventry, who won West Ham’s Academy Player of the Year in the 2017-18 season, also was part of David Moyes’ squad which lifted the Europa Conference League trophy. He made two starts in that competition for the Hammers.
His only first-team appearance this season has been in the EFL Trophy, playing the full 90 minutes in a 4-0 win at Colchester United.
