Teenager arrested after woman, 22, stabbed to death – South London News

A teenager has been arrested after a 22-year-old woman was stabbed to death on Christmas Eve.

Police were called at around 10pm to reports of a woman suffering from a stab injury at a house in Spenlow House, Jamaica Road, Bermondsey.

Officers attended along with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.

They provided emergency first aid to the woman, but she died at the scene. The Met said her family have been informed.

A 16-year-old boy – who is known to the victim – was arrested nearby on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody at a South London police station.

Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh, investigating, said: “This is a tragic incident and my thoughts are with the woman’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

“We recognise this will also have an impact on the wider community and we will have additional patrols in the area over the coming days to provide reassurance.”

A post-mortem examination was due to take place yesterday, as the investigation continues.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, investigating, added: “Our investigation continues and a team of detectives are working at pace to establish the circumstances that resulted in a young woman losing her life.

“My thoughts, and those of my team, are with her family and friends at this awful time.

“One person has been arrested, but we still need to hear from anyone who was in the Spenlow House area between 7pm and 11pm on Christmas Eve and may have seen or heard anything suspicious.

“I would urge anyone with any information that may be relevant to our investigation, no matter how insignificant it may have seemed at the time, to come forward immediately.”

A spokesman from the Met said: “Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 5855/24Dec. Information can also be shared online.

“You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
