Storm Pia – travel latest: Severe disruption at two major London stations; snow and ice warnings issued; wind speeds hit 115mph | Weather News

A strike in France that forced cross-Channel rail services to be suspended has ended after an agreement was reached with unions, Eurotunnel has said.

The unexpected strike led to the cancellation of services on Eurostar between London and Paris.

Eurotunnel said: “Eurotunnel management and trade union representatives have reached an agreement at the end of a day marked by strike action which led to the closure of the terminals and the interruption of services since midday.

“This agreement means that LeShuttle services will resume progressively this evening and Eurostar tomorrow morning.

“Eurotunnel welcomes this agreement and reiterates its apologies to all LeShuttle customers as well as Eurostar passengers and rail freight operators whose traffic has been impacted by this strike.”

Christmas getaway journeys were ruined for thousands of people due to the strikes, with at least 30 Eurostar trains cancelled.

Some passengers found out about the cancellations when they were already on the train to their destination.

Sonia Kapur, a 50-year-old American tourist, said they were on their way when they had to return to Paris.

“Due to a last-minute strike by Eurotunnel staff, no Channel Tunnel crossings have taken place since…midday,” a Eurostar spokesperson said.

“Unfortunately, this means 30 Eurostar trains have been cancelled out of London, Paris or Brussels until the end of the day.

“For passengers due to travel tomorrow, Eurostar will update them directly with any changes to services from 1900UK/2000CET (Central European Time).”
