Man jailed after detectives use phone data to link him to rape in east London. – The Havering Daily

An investigation by Met detectives has resulted in a man being jailed for raping a woman in Tower Hamlets.

Delroy Ogiste was convicted after officers gathered evidence which proved he had attacked the woman at a hotel in Bethnal Green in April 2022.

The 43-year-old, of Higham Road, Haringey, was found guilty of two counts of rape and one count of strangulation at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, 29 September.

He was sentenced at the same court on Friday, 8 December to 13 years’ imprisonment. He was also given a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Detective Constable Molly Osborne, who led the investigation, said: “Ogiste is a dangerous offender who subjected a woman to a terrifying and violent ordeal. I am pleased he will now spend a considerable time in prison.

“I have heard from the victim about the impact the attack has had on her and I know she will have to deal with this for many years to come. The sentence handed down will not change this, however I hope knowing her attacker is behind bars will provide some comfort.

“Tackling violence against women and girls is a key priority for the Met and we will continue to do all we can to remove predatory offenders from the streets of the London.”

In June 2022, officers were contacted by a woman who told them she had been raped at a hotel in Bethnal Green on 29 April 2022.

The woman, aged in her 20s, had been on a night out with a friend when she met the suspect in a fast-food restaurant.

The pair went back to a nearby hotel where he became aggressive and raped her.

She described the attack as ‘never ending’ and told officers she feared she would never see her family again.

Detectives launched an investigation to track down the suspect. They used phone data to identify Ogiste and link him to the crime.
