When the man behind romcom movie Notting Hill revealed he was quitting the West London area he had put on the map, one neighbour mourned the loss as the ‘ravens leaving the Tower’.
But now I can reveal the ravens have made their nest elsewhere as film director Richard Curtis and his longtime partner – and now wife – broadcaster Emma Freud, are happily ensconced in a Grade II-listed £17.5 million North London townhouse.
Their swanky new property is in a private road in Hampstead that has been home to high-profile residents including the late Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy author John le Carré.
Earlier this year, Richard, 67, moved out of the area he made famous in the 1999 movie, which starred Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant.

He and Emma, 61, sold the five-bedroom Notting Hill townhouse they had bought in 1998 for close to £30million.
The end-of-terrace house was known for its quirks and boasted a blue front door – similar to the one owned by Hugh Grant’s character William Thacker in the film. Alongside their new luxury London pad, Richard and Emma also own an 18th Century home in the Suffolk village of Walberswick.
The house was partially damaged last summer in a fire that killed their pet cat Meep and four kittens.
Richard and Emma were approached for comment.
