Diwali is on November 12, otherwise known by many who celebrate it as the Festival of Light.
We’ve rounded up four of the restaurants in south east London hosting Diwali celebrations this year and what they’ll be offering:
Babur, Forest Hill

How much? £65 with wine pairings or £50 without
From November 12, Babur, a popular award-winning restaurant, specialising in fine dining Indian food, will be hosting a menu created especially to mark Diwali.
The events will begin with a special ticketed celebration on November 12, held in the marquee with music and dancing.
For the whole month there will be a three-course set menu with the additional option of wine parings.
For starters, guests can choose between a Dahi Bhalle Ki Chaat made with lentils, cool yogurt, crispy puff puri and pomegranate, or a Chapli Kebab made with minced mutton, malabari paratha, mint sauce and pickled onion.
For mains there is a choice between a Tehari Biryani with guchhi, mutter, paneer, and beetroot raita, or the Bhapa Sea Bass with steamed sea bass, green spiced coconut chutney and rice flour roti.
Finally, for dessert there will be a choice between a Ghevar – a rajasthani disc shaped sweet with rabdi kufli – badana – or a Buffalo Milk Risotto with white chocolate rese petals, soan papdi and raspberry gel.
Cinnamon Culture, Chislehurst

Cinnamon Culture in Chislehurst will be hosting a traditional celebration lunch featuring a range of thalis and platters, which feature individual portions of North Indian dishes with veg, non-veg and vegan varieties to choose from.
There will be a range of options to suit different dietary requirements, including vegan and vegetarian dishes as well as meat and seafood options.
The restaurant will also be decorated for the festivities with lights, along with rangoli stencils and colored powders if you fancy getting creative.
Indian Essence by Atul Kochhar, Petts Wood
Where? 176-178 Petts Wood Rd, Petts Wood, Kent, BR5 1LG
When? November 12 & 13
How much? £37.95 Petts Wood-based restaurant Indian Essence by Atul Kochhar will be offering a Diwali menu on November 12 and 13 featuring a range of classic Indian dishes.
Guests will be able to choose from starters like Makali Fry or the Bhatti Ka Murg with five different options to select from.
For mains there will be six different options from a Samudri Malabar Curry to a Lamb Nihari.
The dessert will be a Mithai platter with a range of sweet treats created by the chefs to mark the festivities.
Kinaara, Greenwich
Where? InterContinental London – The O2, One Waterview Drive, Greenwich Peninsula, SE10 0TW
When? November 7 – 11
How much? £55
From November 7 – November 11, Kinaara will be hosting a special menu to mark Diwali featuring 4 starters, 4 mains, 3 sides and 3 desserts to choose from along with a complimentary Diwali starter.
Guests can choose from starters like a classic Tandoori Chicken Tikka or a Bengali Fish Cake made with smoked cod and brown crab meat.
For mains, guests can choose from Paneer Makhanwala made with cottage cheese, tomato fenugreek sauce and cashew nut crust, or a Kadahi Prawn with onion and peppers, Kardai sipes mix and Kashmiri chilli.
Sides will include a range of sharing dishes including Butter Naan, Saffrom Pulao rice and Dal Kinaaara – lentils cooked overnight with tomato, ginger garlic and kashmirii red chilli.
For desserts, there will be a choice between a Kesar Malai Cake made with Saffron, Akbari and pistachio wafer, Dhanak Kulfi – Indian ice cream flavoured of Beetle spice, pistachio and clementine – and Gajar Halwa – Black Indian carrots fudge, almond namelaka and vanilla ice cream.
