Richarlison is preparing to undergo surgery for a pelvic injury after struggling with an injury for eight months.

The Tottenham striker has struggled to find his footing in north London after his £60million move from Everton in July 2022, and has had spells of his Spurs career hampered by injury.

Most recently, the Brazil international admitted to being plagued by issues with his mental wellbeing following months of off-field turbulence.

The striker shared in September that he would seek psychological help in a bid to build back his confidence and said that he hoped to continue playing as he sought to work himself back into form.

But his progress has been hampered by physical injury, and just two matchdays after assisting his third goal under Ange Postecoglou, the 26-year-old is facing a spell on the sidelines.

‘The last few months haven’t been easy for me,’ Richarlison told ESPN Brazil on Monday. ‘I’ve also been suffering with my health.

‘I’ve already spoken to doctors and I’ll soon have surgery on my pubis.

‘I’ve been suffering for eight months, fighting for the national team and my club, and I didn’t look for me.

‘I think the time has come to rest, take a break. Let’s see the next few days, soon I’ll do what’s best for me.’

Richarlison was an unused substitute for Postecoglou on a chaotic night for his Tottenham side as they finally fell to their first Premier League defeat of the season against Chelsea.

Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero were both sent off and Spurs were unable to fend off an increasingly confident Chelsea as they doggedly kept playing an eye-wateringly high defensive line.

The home side were belatedly snuffed out by a late Nicolas Jackson hat-trick, although both sides saw a combined five goals ruled out by upon review.

Richarlison has scored just twice for Spurs across 11 appearances in all competitions, and provided a further three assists.

But the Brazilian is only one goal off his 2022-23 total, which saw him net only three in a challenging debut season that saw him make 35 appearances in total.
