What’s on for Halloween around south London?

Head south of the river this Halloween, where you’ll find a haunted mansion, a mysterious immersive experience, or if you don’t like a good scare – sausage dogs dressed up as pumpkins.

1. Immersive horror show

A brand new immersive Halloween experience inspired by an ancient Greek myth is coming to Borough.

Brought to you by theatre company COLAB, The Descent is a ‘heart-pounding journey into the unknown’. It’s inspired by the Greek myth of Orpheus’s descent into the Underworld in an effort to find the soul of his late wife Euridice. The show is expected to truly scare its audience.

When? Until 11 November 

Where? COLAB Bankside, between The Globe Theatre and Borough Market. Entry is via Park Street.

2. Terror of London

Delve into history and hear gruesome tales of what went on in the Tower of London.

Listen to stories of torture and imprisonment and explore the Bloody Tower where you’ll collide with roaming ghosts of past inmates at the Tower of London.

Visit over the October half term and follow a spooky trail around the ancient landmark and see if you can spot medieval queens, Roman soldiers and wizards lurking about the place.

Follow the ghosts you see along the way and drop by the ruined garden in the shadow of the White Tower where you’ll see the decaying walls and barred windows of a lost palace.

This is a family-friendly adventure designed to spook, but not to terrify.

When? Saturday 21 – Sunday 29 October

3. See a real-life ‘haunted’ mansion

Go ghosthunting in a manor house in Charlton, home to ghosts – that might still be there…

Visit Charlton House and learn about the ghosts that haunt it. Who knows – you may even spot one. The house has existed for hundreds of years, so it’s not a big surprise that a few of its former residents have stuck around.

When? Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 October.

Admission: Kids ages 5-12 £5 – includes craft supplies, a Halloween garden trail, and Halloween sweets.

4. Halloween Drag Show

A riverside venue along the South Bank is hosting two back-to-back drag events for Halloween.

Head to the Halloween drag show brunch hosted by Ru Paul’s Drag Race UK stars Black Peppa and Elektra Fence at Between the Bridges.

Expect bottomless prosecco, games, and the chance to win prizes for the best Runway look all whilst listening to all your favourite drag & pop anthems.

When? Saturday 28 October (all day)

5. Halloween Costume Party

Peckham Levels is throwing a big old party the night the clocks go back to allow for an extra hour of dancing.

Come dressed to impress. The theme is 2023’s viral moments – think movies, music, memes, Tik Tok or basically anything Beyonce got up to this year. As for music, local legends BORN N BREAD will be playing a special set of their trademark funky house, UK Garage, Hip Hop and nostalgic R&B.

Warming up the decks for them will be DJ collective WA Radio and the BBC Radio 1Xtra-backed Shifa Ligero.

The first 100 people through the door get a free shot and there’s a cash prize for the best dressed, so pull out all the stops and feel free to get freaky with your costumes.

6. Puppy Halloween Fest

Take your Dachshund down to make friends and get spooky at a pop-up dog event in Bermondsey.

There’s no reason your pup needs to miss out on all the fun! On Saturday 28 October, visit the pop-up dog Halloween event taking place at Fourpure Brewery.

Get some spooky photos taken and trick or treat on entry. Mingle with up to 50 dachshunds per session and indulge your pooch with unlimited ‘puppuccinos.’

Finally, don’t go home without checking out the stalls – where local dog businesses will have lots to buy. There is also a later event for all ‘Doodle’ breeds – anything from a Cockapoo to a Sheepadoodle is welcome.

7. Fright Night Funfair

The annual Halloween & Half Term Funfair is arriving in Crystal Palace – where ‘every night is fright night.’

Forget ghosts and demons – for some, the scariest thing they can think of is a rollercoaster. If that is you, then this October half-term, dress up and head down to the family-friendly fair in the heart of Crystal Palace Park.

This year you can even win a free ride if you post a photo of yourself in costume at the fair and post it with the necessary hashtags.

8. Haunted Roof Riot

For one night only, the Bussey Building rooftop is being transformed into a ‘haunted graveyard of terror.’

Celebrate his Halloween with ‘wickedly themed’ cocktails (you can enjoy one for free if you arrive before 7 pm!) live DJs and views to, er, die for – but don’t: you won’t want to miss this party.

Blankets will be on hand to warm those who get thoroughly chilled.

10. Neon Naked Life Drawing: Halloween Special

So you don’t fancy a full-on horror fest or dancing until you drop down dead, but you still want to do something to mark the season?

Paint your perfect vision for the night at Prince of Peckham, where a horror-themed edition of its fruity arts and crafts class is unfolding.

It’s life drawing, but with a twist: you’ll be using neon reactive materials to draw the models. Rusty? The class starts with some playful drawing games to get you warmed up, then it’s over to you to produce your night’s masterpiece.
