Meet the Twenty Trailblazing Women of Private Equity

PEN’s second annual list of women helping to shape the buyout industry includes eight new entries, which is testament to the fact that the sector is slowly becoming more gender balanced.

The new executives on the list include Irina Hemmers, who joined Thoma Bravo to lead its London office this year, and Lindsey McMurray, a female founder of a PE firm.

The list comes nearly a year on from a European gender diversity report which provided data on female representation across the PE industry for the first time.

The Level 20 report revealed a dearth of women in senior investment roles and a proliferation of all-male investment teams.

Analysis of more than 1,000 private equity and venture capital firms across continental Europe found that only 20% of investment professionals are women, with the figure falling to 10% at the senior level.

However, signs of progress did appear within the buyout industry’s junior level, where women represent 34% of investment professionals.
