Tottenham outcasts Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele are set to join Galatasaray – with the defender leaving permanently, while Spurs’ record signing will move on loan

  • Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele are both out-of-favour at Tottenham
  • Spurs have been keen to move the pair on and they are now expected to depart
  • Listen to the latest episode of Mail Sport’s podcast ‘It’s All Kicking Off’

Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele are both set to depart Tottenham and join Galatasaray.

Sanchez, 27, arrived at Tottenham back in 2017 for a fee potentially rising to £42m, but struggled to convince in north London.

He is set to leave on a permanent deal, with the Colombian defender receiving interest from several clubs including Spartak Moscow and Nottingham Forest this summer.

Meanwhile, Ndombele – who is Spurs’ record signing after joining for £55m from Lyon in 2019 – will move on loan after spending similar temporary stints at both Lyon and Napoli over the past two seasons.

Neither player were part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans this year, although Sanchez did feature twice, but Ndombele has failed to even make any matchday squad.

Cruelly for Sanchez, his last action in a Tottenham shirt will be his missed penalty during a Carabao Cup shootout defeat to Fulham last week.

The 54-time Colombian international faced the embarrassment of being booed by his own fans last season when he lasted just 23 minutes before he was subbed off during a 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth.

Having originally replaced Clement Lenglet in the 35th minute, Sanchez made two mistakes as the Cherries raced into a 2-1 lead and Spurs fans let out a mixture of boos and ironic cheers as he headed off the pitch, while many of his touches of the ball were also jeered.

The 27-year-old failed to live up to weight of his fee across six years in north London, and only made more than 30 Premier League appearances in a single season once.

In Antonio Conte’s first full campaign in charge Sanchez looked to have earned a place in the Italian’s plans at the club, starting three of the Spurs’ first five Premier League games.

However, Sanchez’s run in the team would ultimately prove to be short lived as he went to make just five further Premier League starts as the club failed to secure European football for the first time since 2010.

Nevertheless, he still racked up more than 200 appearances across his six years at the club.

Ndombele has badly struggled in north London ever since his club-record move, with the fee Spurs paid at the time surpassing Sanchez – who was the club’s previous biggest outlay.

Galatasaray won the Turkish Super Lig in 2022-23 for the first time in four years and are preparing to feature in the Champions League, where they have been drawn in a group with Bayern Munich, Man United and FC Copenhagen.

Their squad includes former Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha and ex-Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira.
