National League: Dagenham & Redbridge 3 AFC Fylde 1

Buoyed by their Bank Holiday weekend success over Barnet and Wealdstone, the hosts saw Elliot Justham called into action on six minutes to make a good save after Fylde had created a chance, before Ryan Hill went through at the other end only to be denied by the visiting keeper.

Hill made amends moments later, though, with a superb finish into the top corner from 25 yards to open the scoring.

And Daggers doubled their lead on 28 minutes when Myles Weston’s cross found Charley Kendall, whose attempted flick fell kindly for Josh Rees to smash home close range.

Sam Ling was booked four minutes before the break, with Fylde hitting back soon after through Taylor O’Kane to raise their hopes for the second half.

And only an offside flag denied the visitors an equaliser at the start of the second half, in an early warning for Daggers.

Omar Mussa went close for the hosts on 54 minutes, then made it 3-1 with a stunning strike just before the hour after Hill cut in from the left and found him to provide a fine finish.

Frank Vincent made way for debutant Flynn Clarke – one of three new signings announced on Saturday – in the first change of the day for Daggers, with Justham producing a great save to deny Gold Omotayo moments later.

The excellent Hill was replaced by Conor Lawless for the last quarter of an hour, with Sydney Ibie a late substitute for the tireless Rees.

Dagenham & Redbridge: Justham, Tavares, Hessenthaler, Vincent (Clarke 65), Rees (Ibie 89), Hill (Lawless 74), Weston, Phipps, Kendall, Ling, Mussa. Unused subs: Strizovic, Page.
