Manchester City will offer Erling Haaland a bumper new deal that would see him earn roughly twice as much as Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, according to reports. Haaland has taken the Premier League by storm following his move to City last summer and only needed one year to smash Alan Shearer’s record for the highest number of goals in a single season.
Haaland is already on six goals for the new campaign after just four games and is set to be rewarded with a massive payrise, according to the Daily Star. It is said that he will soon be offered a huge new deal that would almost double his existing salary of £375,000 per week.
The 23-year-old will reportedly earn a basic weekly wage of £600,000, which is around twice as much as what Salah currently pockets at Liverpool. The Egyptian winger, who was the subject of a mega-money approach from Al-Ittihad on deadline day, is thought to be picking up between £300,000 and £350,000 each week at Anfield.
City are said to be desperate to secure Haaland’s long-term future in order to prevent him from moving to either Real Madrid or the Saudi Pro League any time soon. They always intended to reward the striker’s record-breaking debut campaign, but the figures on offer are thought to have been adjusted in the face of Real Madrid’s long-standing interest.
Haaland scored 52 goals in all competitions for City last season and already looks set to produce a similar outlay this time around. He bagged his latest hat-trick against Fulham on Saturday with a flurry of second-half goals as City secured an easy 5-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium.
The forward was hailed after the final whistle by Juanma Lillo, who is standing in for Pep Guardiola at City while the Spaniard recovers from minor back surgery.
“I said in the break, this is not an easy game, but you can still help us by scoring and he scored three,” said Lillo. “This guy was born to score goals so it would be no surprise if he gets those same figures [as last season], but it doesn’t matter.
“He’s great at providing for other players. He gave one assist today. He has this importance to other players, it’s not just about scoring goals. I’m more impressed by other figures as well, not just if he ends up scoring. I always looked at his intelligence as well as his goalscoring.”
