East London club E1 approved to build new venue · News ⟋ RA

  • Its future had been in doubt due to a pending redevelopment project.
  • E1, a club in Wapping, East London, has won approval from Tower Hamlets council to build a new venue.

The area around its current home on Pennington Street is due to be redeveloped into housing, offices, commercial space and a self-storage depot. This will mean the demolition of E1’s current home.

However, plans have now been approved that include a flexible nighttime venue and photography studio as part of the redevelopment. This means E1 will be able to build a new venue next door to its current premises when the development begins in around five years. It’ll have a 24-hour license on Fridays and Saturdays, and a 3 AM license the rest of the week.

“We’ve been working tirelessly behind the scenes in collaboration with Tower Hamlets and Big Yellow Storage to ensure and safeguard the future of E1,” said Yuval Hen, the owner and founder of E1, in a statement. “We’re now happy to confirm that the development plans include a brand new bespoke purpose-built venue, taking into account sound mitigation, that will become our new home once the initial development is complete.”

Hen confirmed that E1, in its current form, will remain open until the redevelopment project begins later this decade.
