Manchester United expect Luke Shaw to be fit again in ten weeks as they seek a short-term solution with Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon.

United revealed Shaw was injured after their defeat at Tottenham with the England left-back damaging a thigh muscle.

That prompted their search for left-back cover which initially led to them identifying Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella.

However, after the Spaniard played in Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup tie against Wimbledon it complicated Manchester United’s plans. Ideally they wanted an exit clause allowing them to send Cucurella back to Chelsea in January once Shaw and back-up Tyrell Malacia are fully fit.

Yet Wednesday night’s appearance meant that Cucurella would not have been eligible to leave and then appear for a third club in the second part of the season should Chelsea wish to move him on again.

United’s talks over Marc Cucurella hit an impasse due to Chelsea’s demand for a £7m loan fee – with the club reviving negotiations with Tottenham’s Sergio Reguilon

Reguilon has now been given permission to travel up to Old Trafford to complete a medical and terms ahead of signing on loan.

The latest news around Shaw, as revealed on Mail Sport’s It’s All Kicking Off: Transfer Deadline Special show on Thursday afternoon, is the latest blow to Ten Hag following their mixed start to the season.

Reguilon, who spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid, doesn’t appear to have a future at Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou and hasn’t been involved so far this season.

The former Real Madrid man joined Tottenham in 2020 and has made 67 appearances for the north London club.
