Horror as baby is found dead at a home in east London: Man and woman are arrested on suspicion of murder as police treat death as ‘unexpected’

Police have arrested a man and woman on suspicion of murder after a baby was found at a property in east London yesterday. 

Met Police were called at 7:40pm on Tuesday to a property on Mimosa Close, in Havering, where houses cost up to £475,000, following reports for concerns of the welfare of a baby and discovered the child’s body.

Officers have arrested a man and a woman at the scene on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident and they both remain in custody.

The force said it is treating the death as ‘unexpected and under investigation’, while enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing. 

A police cordon is in place at the scene this morning, with forensic officers and investigators seen entering the property.

Havering is a suburban borough in outer London, which borders the town of Brentwood in Essex, which was made famous as the setting for the reality TV show The Only Way Is Essex. 

The Met Police said: ‘At approximately 19:40hrs on Tuesday, 22 August police were called to an address in Mimosa Close, Havering following reports for concerns of the welfare of a baby.

‘Officers attended. The body of a baby was located. At this time the death is being treated as unexpected and under investigation. 

‘A scene remains in place at the address. Enquiries into the circumstances continue.

‘A man and a woman have been arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder in connection with this incident; both remain in custody.’
