New listening bar MOKO opening in London tonight · News ⟋ RA

  • Located in Tottenham’s TEN87 complex, the venue is from the team behind Peckham spot JUMBI.
  • A new listening bar and restaurant is opening in North London tonight, August 18th.

Housed within Tottenham’s TEN87 complex, MOKO is the brainchild of Bradley Zero and Nathanael Williams, the founders of sister venue JUMBI in Peckham, South London. (The venues take their name from stilt walkers at Caribbean carnivals, AKA Moko Jumbi.)

The approach at MOKO will be similar: sounds and flavours of the Afro-Caribbean diaspora, with audiophile sound provided by Friendly Pressure. There will be one turntable, a solid-oak booth built by Don Heston and a community vinyl library for the guest DJs. The food will be handled by sisterwoman vegan.

“In our endeavour to establish a venue in Tottenham, we’re not merely looking to capitalise on its growing popularity,” the founders said. “Instead, our goal is to build something meaningful and centred around the community, much like what JUMBI achieved in Peckham. From our modest start just a year ago, we’ve seen the potential and the importance of fostering community spirit. Tottenham boasts a vast pool of creative talent, and our top priority is to cultivate and support that community, ensuring that our initiative mirrors the heartfelt commitment and authenticity that’s been a cornerstone of our journey so far.”

Tonight’s opening runs from 8 PM until late. Find out more via the event listing below. MOKO is also open tomorrow.
