Chelsea transfer news: Outcast rejects Nottingham Forest move in Brennan Johnson swap deal | Football | Sport

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah is said to have rejected the chance to join Nottingham Forest as part of a deal that would see Brennan Johnson move in the other direction to Stamford Bridge. The 24-year-old centre-back has had a tough time trying to establish himself in Mauricio Pochettino’s team since the Argentine’s appointment after suffering a fitness problem during the pre-season tour of the United States.

Chalobah has not been short of interest either this summer with Inter Milan and West Ham believed to be long-term admirers.

Nonetheless, Chalobah has been prepared to stick it out at Chelsea and fight for his place despite the influx of new players in west London.

More could yet follow with Chelsea also chasing the signing of £50million-rated Johnson from Forest.

The Welshman is up for grabs at the right price but Forest continue to play hardball after rejecting a £35m bid from Brentford.

Now The Evening Standard are reporting that Chelsea have tried to include Chalobah in a package to keep the price down.

Chalobah is said to have had little interest in the move to the City Ground though, meaning the deal collapsed.

West Ham and Tottenham are also tracking Johnson and movement could yet materialise in the final weeks of the window.

The Blues had been focusing their efforts on landing Michael Olise from Crystal Palace but that has now drastically changed after the winger signed a new long-term contract with Crystal Palace.

Chelsea are believed to be clear frontrunners for Welsh attacker Jackson as they boast several players that would be of interest to Forest if a swap deal proved favourable for all parties.

One of those is Ian Maatsen although Pochettino is yet to decide whether he would consider offers for the talented Dutchman, who excelled in pre-season.

Forest also remain in talks with Arsenal over the signing of Portuguese left-back Nuno Tavares following his loan spell with Marseille.

Discussions are centred around both a loan and permanent deal and nothing has currently been agreed between the parties.

Steve Cooper’s side also looked at Callum Hudson-Odoi earlier in the window.

Fulham are believed to be close to finalising the arrival of the 22-year-old winger, who spent last season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen.

Other clubs including Forest have shown interest in the summer window but Chelsea are holding out for a commendable fee.
